12 Testers for 14 days for free - for Android Game Developers

How to Get Free Testers for Your Android Game and Pass Google Play's 14-Day Requirement

Are you an Android game developer using an engine like Unity, ready to publish your game to billions of users on the Google Play Store?

I won't be covering the basics of creating a developer account or navigating the Play Console today. Instead, this post focuses on solving a very specific hurdle: fulfilling Google Play’s strict policy that requires new developers to have 12 testers testing their app for 14 days to ensure high-quality releases.

Let’s skip the fluff and get straight to the point. Before moving forward, I am assuming you already have a release of your game or app ready to be published to the Closed Testing track in the Play Console.

The Solution: The "12 Testers - Testers Community" App :

You can get the required testers for free using an Android app called Testers Community, which is easily available on the Play Store. It works on a cross-testing model.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to use it:

  1. Download the app: Install the Testers Community app from the Google Play Store.

  2. Setup your account (Crucial): Follow the app's setup instructions carefully. You will be prompted to join a specific Google Group (Testers-community@googlegroups.com). Important: Make sure you sign into this group using the exact same Google account you use on the Play Store. (Many people make a mistake here, causing the testing to fail).

  3. Configure your Play Console: Back in your Google Play Console, ensure you have selected testers from all countries—including "Rest of the World"—for your closed testing release.

  4. Publish your release: Click on Save, and then Publish Release.

  5. Wait for verification: Wait for Google to verify and approve your closed testing release. This typically takes about 3 to 5 hours.

  6. Submit your app: Once verified in the Play Console, add your app's details to the Testers Community app.

  7. Join a Pack: A "pack" is a dedicated group of developers who commit to testing each other's apps for the required duration.

The Golden Rule: You must test everyone's app in your group every single day (opening each app for a minimum of 30 seconds) and leave helpful reviews. In return, they will do the exact same for your game.

  8. Follow the rules: The pack operates under very strict rules, which is exactly what makes this app a standout, reliable, and trustworthy solution for developers.

  9. Apply for Production: After the testing period is successfully completed, you can confidently apply for Production access in the Play Console and finally roll your game out to the world!
